Freemason di Malaysia
Freemason pernah menjadi isu di Malaysia apabila Haji Sulaiman Palestin bertanding jawatan dalam UMNO. Ada dakwaan pemimpin tertentu ditaja atau menjadi ahli Freemson untuk melonjak naik dalam hierarki negara. Awal 1980-an isu ini kembali senyap dalam persidangan UMNO[perlu rujukan].
Di Malaysia, cawangan Freemason beroperasi sebagai Loji Besar Daerah Timur Tengah (District Grand Lodges of Middle East atau DGLME).[11] DGLME secara rasmi bermula di Kuala Lumpur pada 20 Oktober 1916. Ia dipanggil Timur Tengah kerana pada awal kurun ke-19, setiap yang berada antara timur India tidak termasuk timur jauh (Hong Kong, China dan Jepun) dikenali sebagai Timur Tengah. Hanya pada kurun ke-20, istilah Timur Tengah merujuk kepada negara Arab dan Teluk. Cawangan ini bagaimanapun tidak mahu mengubah namanya kerana sudah biasa dengan nama tersebut dan tradisinya.
